USA wins the most medals overall, with 33 total

The 2023 World Athletics Championships, held in Budapest, Hungary, from August 19-27, came to a close on Sunday, August 27. A total of 49 events were contested, with athletes from 206 countries participating. The United States topped the medal table with 33 medals overall, including 13 golds, 11 silvers, and 9 bronzes. Kenya finished second with 12 medals (6 golds, 4 silvers, and 2 bronzes), and Ethiopia was third with 10 medals (4 golds, 4 silvers, and 2 bronzes). Some of the highlights of the championships included: * Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won her fifth world title in the women's 100 meters. * American hurdler Sydney McLaughlin broke the world record in the women's 400-meter hurdles. * Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis set a new world record in the men's pole vault. * American distance runner Grant Fisher won a bronze medal in the men's 5,000 meters, becoming the first American man to medal in the event since 2009. The next World Athletics Championships will be held in Eugene, Oregon, USA, in 2025.
